Paul Thompson scored four goals to lead the Springfield Thunderbirds to a 7-4 road win over the Hartford Wolf Pack last night at XL Center.

It was the first time in club history that anyone has scored four times.

Thompson scored once in the first period and then poured in three goals in the third to snap to break open a tight contest that was tied at four after forty minutes.

Anthony Greco, Harry Zolnierczyk and Tomas Jurco scored the other Springfield goals.

Zolnierczyk added two helpers as did Juho Lammikko and assists also went to Greco, Chris Wideman, Ludwig Bystrom, Dryden Hunt, Jacob MacDonald and Sebastian Repo.

Chris Driedger made 34 stops to help guide the T-Birds to their 20th win of the season.

The loaned for the break trio of Josh Brown, Jayce Hawryluk and Ian McCoshen each had one shot on goal and all three players finished with an even rating.

The team remains in fourth place in the Atlantic Division, however, they opened a three-point gap on the fifth place Providence.

They will face the P-Bruins Saturday after doing battle with the Syracuse Crunch on Friday.

The NHL scoreboard had negative results for the Florida Panthers as the Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens and Carolina Hurricanes, teams the Cats are looking up at in the standings, all won in the final night of action before the All-Star Game in San Jose.

Florida currently trails the Pittsburgh Penguins (WC2) by ten points and Boston (WC1) by eleven with one game in hand on the Bruins.
